Doppler ultrasonography

What is Doppler ultrasonography?

Doppler ultrasonography is an ultrasound examination used to evaluate blood vessel anatomy and assess blood flow to determine vascular patency and circulatory disorders. The procedure allows you to study and evaluate the speed and nature of blood flow, assess the diameter of blood vessels, and identify possible blockages.

We recommend that you schedule a Doppler ultrasonography if you notice the following symptoms:
  • Swelling of the legs in the evenings;
  • Changes in skin colour, appearance of veins;
  • Numbness and pain in the muscles;
  • Cold feet.

How is Doppler ultrasonography performed?

Doppler examination of blood vessels is performed using ultrasound equipment with a special sensor that sends waves through the skin into the patient's body tissue. Vascular Doppler ultrasound enables the safe and painless diagnosis of various congenital and acquired vascular abnormalities. As it is a painless procedure, you can safely continue your normal activities after it is completed.

At the FORTEMED Medical Centre, we examine:

  • Major blood vessels (abdominal aorta, renal arteries, pelvic arteries and veins);
  • Arteries in the arms and legs;
  • Veins in the arms and legs.

At the FORTEMED clinic, Doppler ultrasound is performed with the latest-generation equipment, enabling timely diagnosis of even the most minor problems.

The examinations are performed by experienced and highly qualified interventional radiologist Dr. Andrejs Mundeciems, who is an expert in interventional vascular procedures. After the ultrasound, patients can consult with an interventional radiologist or a vascular surgeon to discuss further treatment options.
