An allergy is a disorder of the immune system in which the body reacts inappropriately to normal substances in its environment, perceiving them as ‘foreign’ and producing antibodies against them, which cause allergic reactions on the skin, mucous membranes, respiratory tract, etc. (runny nose, itchy eyes, watery eyes, bronchospasm, hives, etc.).
