Surgeon

Who is a surgeon?

Surgery is a broad field that is divided into several medical specialities. The following surgical specialities are widely represented at the FORTEMED Medical Centre:

A general surgeon is a medical specialist who specialises in performing various surgical procedures, primarily for pathologies of the abdominal organs, as well as various formations and defects on the surface of the body.

General surgeons can also perform diagnostic procedures, such as biopsies, to determine the cause of a disease and identify treatment options. General surgeons work only with adult patients.

A paediatric surgeon is a medical specialist who specialises in the health of children, from newborns to adolescents. Paediatric surgeons diagnose and treat various childhood diseases and injuries that require surgical intervention. These specialists treat conditions of the abdominal organs, musculoskeletal and connective tissues, urological and other pathologies.

Proctologists can perform surgical and non-surgical procedures to diagnose and treat these diseases, and they also advise on preventive measures.

Surgeon – a doctor who performs surgical interventions, specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries (soft-tissue damage), diseases, and pathological processes of various kinds. However, operations and surgical procedures are not the only responsibilities of surgeons; other modern diagnostic methods are also used (palpation, biopsy, laboratory tests, ultrasound, X-ray, etc.).

The surgeon interviews and advises the patient and their family; selects the optimal treatment plan, taking into account the patient's age and individual characteristics; prepares the patient for surgery (nutrition, medication, and other preoperative stages); and conducts postoperative rehabilitation and prevention.

When should you see a surgeon?

The help of a surgeon is extremely important for the following symptoms:

  • Joint pain;
  • Skin and soft tissue pathologies (abrasions, burns, deep wounds, bites, purulent inflammations, etc.)
  • Hernias;
  • Congenital organ abnormalities;
  • Inflammatory processes;
  • Poorly healing wounds and ulcers;
  • Dressing and monitoring of wounds.

Subcutaneous formations include atheromas, lipomas, papillomas, haemangiomas, fibromas, birthmarks, and other formations. Although benign neoplasms are generally harmless, they require observation and consultation with a surgeon.

Outpatient surgery offers the following removal procedures:

  • Atheroma;
  • Lipoma;
  • Pigmentation;
  • Papilloma;
  • Nail edge;
  • Haemangioma;
  • Birthmark.

Surgical procedures are performed using various technical methods appropriate for each specific case – laser surgery, monocoagulation or classic removal techniques.
