Paediatrician

The FORTEMED Medical Centre employs specialists in children's health. The doctors and medical staff at our medical centre work together to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to strengthening and treating children's health.
The main priority of the FORTEMED medical centre is to ensure the health and well-being of children, paying special attention to individual needs and developmental stages to provide high-quality, comprehensive medical care.

Who is a paediatrician?

A paediatrician is a medical specialist who is specially trained to care for children's health from birth through adolescence. This specialist is trained to monitor a child's physical, emotional, and social development over many years and is knowledgeable about all stages of child development.

A paediatrician is a ‘chief inspector’ in assessing and maintaining a child's health. They are responsible for regular medical examinations, vaccination planning, preventing potential developmental delays, and preventing and treating diseases. Paediatricians help identify and address medical, behavioural, and emotional issues that may affect a child's health and well-being.

Another important role of the paediatrician is to educate the child and their family about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, the role of nutrition and physical activity in child development, and disease prevention. Paediatricians regularly encounter a variety of health issues that affect children, including chronic diseases, emotional problems, and developmental abnormalities.

The main goal of a paediatrician is to ensure that all children grow and develop healthily and, where possible, to prevent health problems before they become serious illnesses. Paediatricians are the cornerstone of child health care and the primary source of support for children and their families in health matters.

When should a child see a paediatrician?

A paediatrician is the primary point of contact for any questions or concerns about a child's health. It is important for parents to know when to see a paediatrician in order to prevent potential health problems and ensure their child's well-being.

The following symptoms may indicate a health problem that requires the attention of a pediatrician:

  • Fever;
  • Pain in any part of the body;
  • Digestive disorders;
  • Cough and runny nose;
  • Redness of the eyes;
  • Rash;
  • Developmental abnormalities.

If the paediatrician identifies health problems or risks that could affect the child's long-term health, they may recommend a specialist visit.

For example, if the paediatrician identifies growth problems in the child, they may recommend a visit to an endocrinologist who specialises in hormonal disorders. If your child has speech problems, the paediatrician may recommend a consultation with a speech therapist. In this way, the paediatrician can monitor and manage a comprehensive recovery strategy for the child, involving the necessary specialists.

Paediatricians at the FORTEMED Medical Centre work closely with doctors from various specialities to provide comprehensive, coordinated care. This approach ensures that the child receives comprehensive care and that all health issues are addressed in one place. This allows us to create an individualised healthcare plan for each family that meets the unique needs and goals of the child and their family.

Comprehensive therapy may include not only medication but also services from physiotherapists, speech therapists, psychologists, and other specialists. A comprehensive approach provides the child with care that promotes their overall health and well-being.

Preventive paediatric check-ups — the foundation of your child's health

Paediatricians pay special attention to preventive check-ups. These visits not only help monitor your child's health but also help build a trusting relationship among the child, parents, and the doctor.

During each preventive check-up, the paediatrician conducts a detailed assessment of the child's physical and emotional health:

  • Physical examination: The paediatrician will examine the child to ensure that all systems are developing normally. This includes checking the head, ears, eyes, mouth, and teeth, as well as the lungs, heart, abdomen, skin, and bone structure. The child's weight and height are measured and compared with average values to ensure normal development;
  • Medical history: The paediatrician will assess your child's medical history to identify any potential health problems or risks;
  • Nutrition assessment: Because nutrition is important to your child's health, the paediatrician may assess your child's eating habits and recommend dietary changes if necessary;
  • Vaccination check: The paediatrician will confirm that your child has received all necessary vaccinations according to the vaccination schedule;
  • Psycho-emotional assessment: The paediatrician may assess your child's mental health, ask questions about your child's behaviour at home and at school, and check for any mental health issues.

In addition, depending on the child's age and individual health condition, the paediatrician may recommend additional tests or examinations, such as blood or urine tests or imaging studies (e.g., X-rays or ultrasounds), to confirm the child's health status and rule out possible diseases.

Finally, during the preventive examination, the paediatrician will discuss various health issues affecting the child, offer advice on maintaining the child's health, and answer any questions the parents may have about the child's development and health.
